Root Canal in Hale

The term endodontics describes the area of dentistry which concentrates exclusively on root canal treatment. Whilst a general dentist can carry out root canal treatment, provided they have the necessary skills and experience to do so, many of them opt to refer their patients who require this treatment to a specialist.

We are delighted to have Dr Moheen Khan as our specialist in endodontics. Having undertaken 4 years of Post graduate training (on top of his 5 years of dental training) at the prestigious Eastman Dental Institute, Dr Khan is an expert in the use of advanced techniques, materials and equipment required to save teeth that would otherwise have to be extracted.

When a tooth becomes painfully inflamed or infected, rather than take it out, the aim of root canal treatment is to preserve the tooth by carefully cleaning out the intricate system inside the tooth and then sealing it to prevent it from becoming infected again.

Most teeth that have received this treatment will require a crown following treatment to help protect the remaining tooth tissue and we would usually refer you back to your own dentist for this stage.

Here is an example of a root treatment carried out on a curved molar tooth, by Dr Khan. This tooth was referred to Mo by a general dentist due to the severe curvature in the root. The x-rays below show the complicated nature of root canals and illustrates the care and skill required to complete such intricate work.
